Human behaviors are often tied to one another.

For example, consider the case of a woman named Jennifer Dukes Lee. For two and a half decades during her adult life, starting when she left for college and extending into her 40s, Lee never made her bed except for when her mother or guests dropped by the house.

At some point, she decided to give it another try and managed to make her bed four days in a row—a seemingly trivial feat. However, on the morning of that fourth day, when she finished making the bed, she also picked up a sock and folded a few clothes lying around the bedroom. Next, she found herself in the kitchen, pulling the dirty dishes out of the sink and loading them into the dishwasher, then reorganizing the Tupperware in a cupboard and placing an ornamental pig on the counter as a centerpiece.

She later explained, “My act of bed-making had set off a chain of small household tasks… I felt like a grown-up—a happy, legit grown-up with a made bed, a clean sink, one decluttered cupboard, and a pig on the counter. I felt like a woman who had miraculously pulled herself up from the energy-sucking Bermuda Triangle of Household Chaos.”

She was experiencing the Domino Effect.

The Domino Effect states that when you make a change to one behavior it will activate a chain reaction and cause a shift in related behaviors as well.

For example, a 2012 study from researchers at Northwestern University found that when people decreased their amount of sedentary leisure time each day, they also reduced their daily fat intake. The participants were never specifically told to eat less fat, but their nutrition habits improved as a natural side effect because they spent less time on the couch watching television and mindlessly eating. One habit led to another, one domino knocked down the next.

You may notice similar patterns in your own life. As a personal example, if I stick with my habit of going to the gym, then I naturally find myself more focused at work and sleeping more soundly at night even though I never made a plan to specifically improve either behavior.

The Domino Effect holds for negative habits as well. You may find that the habit of checking your phone leads to the habit of clicking social media notifications which leads to the habit of browsing social media mindlessly which leads to another 20 minutes of procrastination.

In the words of Stanford professor BJ Fogg, “You can never change just one behavior. Our behaviors are interconnected, so when you change one behavior, other behaviors also shift.”

As best I can tell, the Domino Effect occurs for two reasons.

First, many of the habits and routines that make up our daily lives are related to one another. There is an astounding interconnectedness between the systems of life and human behavior is no exception. The inherent relatedness of things is a core reason why choices in one area of life can lead to surprising results in other areas, regardless of the plans you make.

Second, the Domino Effect capitalizes on one of the core principles of human behavior: commitment and consistency. This phenomenon is explained in the classic book on human behavior, Influence by Robert Cialdini. The core idea is that if people commit to an idea or goal, even in a very small way, they are more likely to honor that commitment because they now see that idea or goal as being aligned with their self-image.

Returning to the story from the beginning of this article, once Jennifer Dukes Lee began making her bed each day she was making a small commitment to the idea of, “I am the type of person who maintains a clean and organized home.” After a few days, she began to commit to this new self-image in other areas of her home.

This is an interesting byproduct of the Domino Effect. It not only creates a cascade of new behaviors, but often a shift in personal beliefs as well. As each tiny domino falls, you start believing new things about yourself and building identity-based habits.

In the words of Stanford professor BJ Fogg, “You can never change just one behavior. Our behaviors are interconnected, so when you change one behavior, other behaviors also shift.”

YouTube

The History of Youtube. Started by Jawed Karim, Steve Chen, and Chad Hurley, YouTube first launched in 2005 and has now become one of the most visited websites in the history of the internet. As employees of PayPal, the three soon realized, in 2004, that there wasn’t one location where videos could be shared.

YouTubers make money from monetization with AdSense. Advertisers only pay when someone clicks an ad or watches for 30 seconds. This is why you can’t tie your channel views to dollars. If your video gets ten million views but nobody watches or click the ads, you don’t make any money.

Youtube’s controversy is with the fact that Youtube bans/ terminates accounts because of dumb reasons, such as child involvement, copyright. YouTube has also been reporting comments and accounts to law enforcement, which it has to do in compliance with federal law. Advertisers and creators have responded to the issue over the past couple of days following a video highlighting the issue that gained widespread attention. The video, from Matt Watson, demonstrated how searching terms like “bikini haul,” which features women modeling different swimsuits they’ve purchased, can lead to videos of children that feature predatory messages in the comment sections.

People are upset with Youtube, because they are being shown, “inappropriate” content. They don’t think it’s right that people have to see ads for no reason. People are also upset with the fact that they have to see not safe content for children. People are just mad because they have to censor their kids viewing.

You can even earn money directly from YouTube too, as the site shares some of the revenue it makes from companies who pay to run adverts before or over your video. Videos in a range of file formats can be uploaded as YouTube converts it into its Adobe Flash video format, with the file extension .FLV, for you.

YouTube needs to rebuild trust with advertisers.YouTube’s relationship with its creators remains fraught.YouTube’s bid for the living room remains elusive. Some ways YouTube can improve itself for the future

This is my view on Youtube I would like to thank you all who happen to read this. I hope you can come again and read this. It would mean the world to me. So if you would please come read again. (Get me that viewer count) .

Young Boi

Hello I am a 14 year old boy who is in high school. I am a smart kid I just have problems with taking test, I tend to fail them. I also don’t ask for help since I am a quiet person. But today my teacher told us we would have a test in two days and we need to study to prepare for this test. If I fail this test I will be grounded for life and won’t be ungrounded until I move out when I’m 18. In order to prepare for the test a group of my friends. On the day before the test I was told my grandma has died of age. On this day I go into school and talk with my teacher about how my grandmother had died. He said that I can take the test whenever I am mentally ready to take a test. After a week I tell the teacher, I am ready. I take the test, and get the grade on it. The teacher said I was the person who got the highest score out of the entire class with a 99%. I told my parents how well I did on this test, they said good job. You are not grounded.

College

It is assumed that students will continue their education beyond high school. Some

graduates will attend community colleges of four-year colleges and universities

immediately after high school graduation. Some graduates will work part-time and take

classes over an extended period of years. Redburn states that:

Some will obtain vocational skills by attending career-specific schools and

training programs. No matter what path is taken, all who seek post-high-school training

face the problem of paying the ever-increasing costs of higher education. Next to your

home, this may be the most expensive investment you make. (2)

Financial aid can be the answer. It is best to begin by examining the several types of

financial aid available. There are work-study programs and internships, which allow

students to work and earn tuition. Some scholarships are granted by extracurricular

organizations and may require a formal membership or a period of activate participation.

It is important to start your research early so that you have enough time to locate and

meet application deadlines for a variety of awards (Kent 97).

Money

It is not easy to manage money, but this is a very important part of becoming an

independent adult. When you start your first job (which will probably be a part-time job),

you will be expected to take on some of the financial responsibilities for your won care

that were previously met by your parents or guardians. Perhaps you will have to buy your

own clothes. You will certainly have to pay for your own lunches and for your

transportation to and from work. “You will have to learn to live within your means,

which means spending no more than you earn, or but buying things for which you cannot

pay” (Krammer and Petrie 154).

If you are to be successful in living within your means, you must have a plan for

spending. People who do not plan often end up in trouble with credit accounts. College

students are particularly at risk of overdoing it with credit if they use the many

unsolicited credit cards that come to them in the mail almost as soon as they check into

the dormitory. Jones tells parents to be sure that their college-age students leave for

college with a sensible spending plan and lessons on how to use credit (29).

SweetHome

This is about how I am going to write two-hundred words on this blogging site, called WordPress. My teacher is a mean dude who makes us type a two-hundred word blog every week. He is being overly complicated, so in other words he is being difficult. We go to a High School, that needs help keeping the juul rooms not smelly, how are the degenerates supposed to get their quick amount of nicotine, if the juul rooms smell like doo-doo. They need to keep the good kids out of the juul room so we can just use it to juul, and not go to the bathroom. We even caught a trashcan on fire, because we were smoking weed, and the entire school had to go outside for 30 minutes in the rain. How are we supposed to know putting hot things, in a trashcan that has paper towels in it, will catch the hallway on fire. This is not fair to us kids that use those rooms to smoke. “We smoke in the bathrooms to make them not smell like doo-doo.” —-Not a Degenerate (Jaren) This is why they do it. They want the school to not smell bad anymore.

This is my blog on how I am confused on why we have to blog. This makes no sense to me. I would like to ask my teacher why we need to learn how to blog, when this is not us making a video, movie, or advertisement. I understand that this helps us learn how to type, and set up blogs but I’d rather not know how to blog if it meant that I got to learn how to edit. I do understand that it helps us to learn how to type faster, and more efficient. My friend failed keyboarding which is typing at out school. So this in theory should help him to learn how to type faster but I on the other hand had almost 100% in the class so doing blogs makes no sense to me because I did so “well” in our typing class. So there is that merit to the blogging for the ones who are not so good at typing, but this is a waste of time for me and the others who do well in typing and have been typing for awhile. So if I had the option I would rather not have to blog since I feel like giving my point of view about things is a waste, and also I don’t feel the need to learn how to type faster.
